She has been named executive vp original programming and general manager.
Disney Junior has promoted Nancy Kanter to executive vp original programming and general manager, it was announced Wednesday by Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide.
"Nancy's vision for Disney Junior has transformed it into a creative powerhouse for our youngest viewers and their parents, adding content that has captivated millions of new viewers -- and simultaneously creating vibrant new opportunities for every other line of business at the Walt Disney Company," said Marsh, to whom Kanter will report, in a statement.
The Burbank-based Kanter will continue to oversee development and production for all Disney Junior series, including Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, Jake and the Never Land Pirates and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse; short-form shows Minnie's Bow-Toons and A Poem Is ...; and the Disney Junior Night Light block. She leads the creative content for Disney Junior on a worldwide scale, uniting the creative vision and cohesiveness between programming, promotion and extensions of the brand.
Disney Junior's upcoming slate includes Sheriff Callie's Wild West, a Western series voiced by Mandy Moore, and The 7D, a comedy centered on the Seven Dwarfs.
A graduate of Hunter College, Kanter joined Disney Channel in 2001 and led the rebrand of Playhouse Disney to Disney Junior. She also formed the Disney Junior Educational Resource Group, responsible for curriculum development and focus group studies of the network's content and brand extensions.
