Weeks after Disney elevated Thomas Staggs to chief operating officer, the company has named Bob Chapek as the new chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Chapek succeeds Staggs, who previously held that post, and will report to both Staggs and Robert Iger, Disney chairman and CEO.
A 22-year veteran of Disney, Chapek has served as president of Disney Consumer Products since 2011.
"Under Bob's leadership, Consumer Products has seen great success, focusing on brands and a franchise-driven strategy while launching new products and retail experiences that combine technological innovation and creativity," Iger said in making the announcement on Monday.
Prior to leading Disney's consumer product's division, Chapek was president of distribution for the Disney Studios from 2009 to 2011, overseeing distribution across multiple platforms from theatrical to home entertainment and digital and new media. Before that, he held the post of president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
