Disney returns 'Aladdin,' 'Cinderella' to vault
DVD releases slow
DVD shipments are down 15.9% for the first nine months of the year, according to the DVD Release Report. As of Sept. 30, 8,478 new DVD titles have come to market, down from 10,079 at the same point a year ago. Last week it was reported that DVD sales to consumers, as tracked by Nielsen VideoScan, are down 5% for the same period.
Going for gold
Koch Vision's "Soundstage Presents Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Live in Concert" DVD has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales of more than 50,000 copies. Meanwhile, a
3-DVD set of Peter Bogdanovich's Petty docu "Running Down a Dream" bowed on Tuesday, available only at Best Buy.
Consumers can now vote for their favorite TV-DVD releases of the past year at HomeMediaMagazine.com. Judges for the fourth annual TV DVD Awards last week selected four finalists apiece in 16 categories. Winners will be announced Nov. 12 at the awards ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City. The awards are produced by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with The Hollywood Reporter and DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.
