Disney Re-Ups Film Slate Deal With Imax Through 2017
The giant-screen exhibitor will show Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm titles like 'Star Wars 7' and 'Ant-Man.'
Imax screens will be filled with Disney superheroes and villains through 2017 after Disney renewed its release slate deal with the giant-screen exhibitor.
The multi-picture agreement will see live-action and animated tentpoles from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm digitally supersized and shown on Imax screens. The biggest titles in the deal include the Star Wars stand-alone film Rogue One and Star Wars: Episode VIII, Marvel's Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.
Also included in the slate deal is Pixar's Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 via limited release, and Disney's The Finest Hours, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, The Jungle Book and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
"For Imax, this deal represents a next step toward creating a diversified slate, which offers moviegoers a broad range of highly innovative and engaging entertainment to be experienced in Imax theatres," said Greg Foster, senior executive vp, Imax Corp. and CEO of Imax Entertainment, in a statement on Wednesday.
Disney has released 25 of its movies on Imax screens since it teamed up with the Canadian-based exhibitor in 2009.
