Disney, UTV pact for home video in India
Mouse will handle 'Udaan,' 'Harishchandrachi Factory'NEW DELHI -- The Walt Disney Company India and UTV Motion Pictures announced that Disney's home entertainment division will handle India distribution for some key UTV titles such as political drama “Raajneeti” and romantic musical “I Hate Luv Storys."
The Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment division distributes the full range of Disney branded and non-branded DVD products in India produced, developed or acquired by the Walt Disney Studios and various television businesses including Disney-ABC, Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney. Recent releases include “The Lion King," “The Jungle Book" and “The Incredibles," which Disney claims are among the highest-selling DVDs of all time in India.
Other titles included as a part of the UTV deal are the banner's latest co-production “Udaan” (which was nominated at Cannes this year) and India’s official selection for this year's Academy Awards, “Harishchandrachi Factory."
“Disney India’s home entertainment business went direct early last year and in addition to distributing our own Disney titles, by working with key titles from UTV’s film slate, we continue to bring great stories and content to the small screens, entertaining families and children all over India,” said WDCI MD Mahesh Samat.
