Disney's 'Sofia the First' TV Series Sets Premiere Date, Reveals Guest Stars
On the heels of its big Sofia the First TV movie premiere, Disney has set a debut date for its animated series about a little girl who becomes a princess.
The show, which stars Modern Family's Ariel Winter in the title role, will debut Friday, Jan. 11, on Disney Channel (9:30 a.m.) and Disney Junior (5:30 p.m.). The premiere episode also will available via Disney Channel SVOD, WATCH Disney Junior and on iTunes beginning Friday, Jan. 4.
Tim Gunn, Sara Ramirez and Wayne Brady also will reprise their roles from the movie, which drew an impressive 5.2 million viewers in its Nov. 18 debut on Disney Channel, becoming the No. 1 cable TV telecast of the year among kids 2-5.
In addition, Winter's Modern Family co-star Eric Stonestreet will guest star in the premiere as the voice of Sofia's flying horse Minimus. Other guest stars will include Viola Davis (The Help), Bonnie Hunt (Cars), Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) and Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development).
Disney princesses Ariel, Aurora, Belle and Jasmine will make special appearances in various episodes, while Fauna, Flora and Merryweather from the classic Sleeping Beauty will return as the headmistresses of Sofia's new school, Royal Prep Academy.
In early January, DisneyJunior.com/Sofia will launch the new game "Minimus the Great," where players can help Sofia take care of her horse Minimus and train for the big Royal Prep Flying Derby race.
