Rapper DMX Sentenced to Six Months in Jail for Unpaid Child Support
A spokesman for the New York City Sheriff's Department previously said that the music star owed $400,000.
DMX was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday night (July 14) in Buffalo, New York, Billboard has confirmed. The 44-year-old rapper was arrested last month in New York City for failure to pay child support just as he was about to perform at Radio City Music Hall.
A spokesman for the New York City Sheriff's Department told WPIX-TV at the time of his arrest that DMX had $400,000 worth of unpaid child support, a warrant issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping and a robbery complaint out of Newark, New Jersey. No charges were filed in the Newark case.
The rapper's real name is Earl Simmons. He had been scheduled to perform at the Master of Ceremony concert at Radio City on June 26 at the time of his arrest.
DMX's first five albums all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. X was set to perform at Shaggfest 2015 in Virginia Beach, Va., on July 25, so Shaggy took to Twitter to break the bad news to his followers:
It comes with sadness and regret. But Dmx will not be attending this year #shaggfest. -- he got locked up today for 6 months— Shaggy (@shaggy757) July 15, 2015
