'Doctor Who' Traveling to Minecraft on Xbox
Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor Who may have only emerged from the Tardis on the show’s season eight premiere Saturday, but now he’s set to land on video game screens, although in a rather more blocky format.
In an announcement Wednesday, BBC Worldwide revealed that Doctor Who would be coming to the popular Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition open world-building game. Following a deal with Microsoft Studios and game designer Mojang, players will be able to download a variety of Doctor Who bonuses, giving them the chance to change their avatar to that of their favorite Time Lord, with onscreen companions and famed adversaries, such as the Daleks, also available. Capaldi’s latest doctor will be included in the first pack, which will go on sale for $2.99.
"We’re constantly looking for new and innovative ways to bring Doctor Who content to our loyal fans,” said Rikesh Desai, digital entertainment and games director at BBC Worldwide U.K. “Working collaboratively with Microsoft, we’ve created an exciting new product that will allow Doctor Who fans to create their own brand-new adventures in the heart of the iconic world of Minecraft."
