'Downton Abbey' Cast on Shock, Backlash of Matthew's Death (Video)
Series creator Julian Fellowes calls the killing off of the main character "a bit testing" as the actors behind PBS/Masterpiece gathered for The Hollywood Reporter's June 11 panel discussion.
In a rare visit stateside, cast and producers of PBS/Masterpiece's Downton Abbey visited Los Angeles on June 11 on a campaign stop to promote the third season (or “series,” as the Brits say) of their Emmy-nominated drama.
But before revealing secrets from the show and what fans can look forward to in season four (slated to air later this year), actress Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley) had a far more pressing topic for debate among her castmates.
“I had the most amazing sushi this weekend!” Dockery said, visibly swooning. “It’s so difficult to find at home, I have to eat a lot every time I’m here.”
Her co-star, Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates) shared Dockery’s enthusiasm for local eats, but had a more American preference. “I actually can’t wait to eat a cheeseburger for lunch today. Mmmmmm.”
But before that, Dockey, Froggatt, and co-stars Rob James Collier (Thomas Barrow) and Elizabeth McGovern (Countess Cora Crawley) with executive producer Gareth Neame and series creator Julian Fellowes, reveal how they coped with the “sudden, untimely death of” of departed co-star Dan Stevens’ character— "“It was all a bit testing, wasn’t it?’admits Fellowes of crafting a suitable exit for Matthew Crawley-- the perks of being a star in the UK, and what they might be doing if they weren’t on the juggernaut series. “I have a business degree, so I’d probably have a dull office job!” admitted one of the actors.
