Dr. Phil fights recession depression
TV host teams with suicide prevention groupNEW YORK -- Dr. Phil and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a 24-hour crisis hotline, have formed a strategic partnership to prevent suicide during the current economic crisis.
The partners will use traditional and new media to offer help to people who are in crisis or distress, including a Dr. Phil avatar on the Lifeline Gallery online forum and plugs for 1-800-273-TALK on Dr. Phil shows about suicidal behavior.
From 2007 to 2008, Lifeline saw a 36% increase in call volume, according to the organization.
The syndicated Dr. Phil series was created by Harpo Productions and is produced by Peteski Productions in association with CBS Television Distribution.
