'Dr. Phil' Grows Against Steady Competition, 'Ricki Lake' Could Get Boost From Carriage Deal
With most daytime talkers steady, Phil gets a small viewership boost and Lake sees her last week off the air in New York and surrounding markets.
Dr. Phil was the only talk show to boost its total audience last week, rising four percent from the prior week to a 2.9 household rating, according to national syndication ratings released Tuesday.
The series shared the lead among talk shows in the key women 25-54 with Live! With Kelly & Michael. Both shows had a 1.5 rating in the demo. Live was the second highest rated talk show with a 2.6 rating in households.
Year to year, Live's targeted demo score is up for the sixth straight (up 15 percent) and women 18-49 is up 20 percent. Live has seen the largest yearly gains of any syndicated talk show in either of the female demos.
Dr. Oz once again ranked third in talk shows with a 2.2 household rating and 1.2 rating among women 25-54 -- despite being preempted in many markets on Fox stations by baseball and in some by political debates.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show came in fourth, though she tied Oz's 2.2 rating and posted a stronger 1.4 rating in the key demo.
Maury took fifth place among talk shows with a 2.1 rating and a 1.4 in the demo.
Katie was sixth again among all talk shows, and remains the top-ranked freshman talker. Katie’s numbers were flat but held the gains made last week. Katie had a 1.9 household rating and a 1.0 in the key demo. Katie currently stands as the highest rated new talk show since the debut of Dr. Oz in 2009.
Steve Harvey held steady as the number two new talk show with a 1.3 household rating and a 0.9 in the key demo.
Anderson Live, which Warner announced Monday will be cancelled next year after it completes its second season, had a 1.1 household rating and a 0.6 rating with women 25-54.
Jeff Probst and Rick Lake tied in household ratings with a 0.7 and in the key demo with each rating a 0.4.
This was another week Ricki was negatively impacted by the dispute between Cablevision and Tribune which kept the show off the air in some New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut markets.
That dispute ended earlier this week so it could boost Ricki in the future.
