DreamWorks Snaps Up Film Rights to 'Silver Linings Playbook' Author's Next Novel
Matthew Quick's next project centers around four outsiders who form an unlikely family in the wake of grieving over pain and loss.
DreamWorks has preemptively acquired film rights to Matthew Quick's upcoming novel The Good Luck of Right Now.
The author's past works include Silver Linings Playbook, which is nominated for the Oscar for best picture, as well as acting noms for Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Jackie Weaver. Last weekend, Lawrence won the Golden Globe for best actress.

Good Luck of Right Now follows the intertwined lives of four people, who are all outsiders in their own right. However, in the wake of grieving over pain and loss in their lives, they come together to form the most unlikely family.
"We immediately sparked to Matthew Quick's book and the heart and humor which is infused in his storytelling," said president of production Holly Bario. "All of us at DreamWorks are excited to begin developing this story and look to make it a priority at the studio."
Harper-Collins preemptively picked up publishing rights to the book in U.S. and Canada, and is targeting a Spring 2014 release date.
Insiders at DreamWorks say the film project is a priority.
Quick also authored the young adult novels Boy 21, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, and Sorta Like a Rock Star.
He's repped by CAA in conjunction with Douglas Stewart of Sterling Lord Literistic, Inc., who simultaneously negotiated the publishing rights for the book to Harper Collins.
