Dueling suits to be heard in same courthouse
MPAA and RealNetworks cases to be heard in LADueling lawsuits filed by the MPAA and RealNetworks will be heard in the same courthouse, a Los Angeles federal judge has ruled.
On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge S. James Otero agreed to transfer the MPAA's case filed here against RealNetworks to Northern California, where RealNetworks filed suit. Both cases were filed the same day, but RealNetworks filed its an hour and 16 minutes before the MPAA's. The MPAA wants to stop RealNetworks from distributing its new software, RealDVD, because it allegedly violates federal law by allowing users to illegally copy DVDs. RealNetworks is seeking a court declaration that its software is in full compliance with the law.
