Duo are 'Born to Be a Star'

Edward Herrmann, Tyler Spindel join Sony's comedy

Edward Herrmann and Tyler Spindel will co-star in Sony's "Born to Be a Star" opposite Christina Ricci and Nick Swardson.

The comedy, about a small-town Midwestern nerd who discovers his parents were famous porn stars, was co-written by Adam Sandler, who is producing with Jack Giarraputo. Tom Brady ("The Hot Chick") will direct.

Herrmann will play Swardson's now-straitlaced father. Spindel, Sandler's nephew, will play the assistant of a washed-up adult-film director trying to squirm his way back into the industry.

Miles Deep Prods. is producing the film, which Sony acquired as a negative pickup. Allen Covert and Barry Bernardi are also producing, and Swardson is co-producing.

Principal photography starts this month.

Herrmann, repped by APA and Kass & Stokes Management, starred on "Gilmore Girls" and recently appeared on NBC's "30 Rock." His feature credits include "The Aviator," and he next appears in the comedy "Son of Mourning."

Spindel, repped by APA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, appeared in "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and "The House Bunny."
