DreamWorks Animation is expanding its TV presence with a slew of projects, most of them extensions of the company's top feature franchises.

COO Ann Daly said Thursday that NBC has ordered two holiday programs — a "Monsters vs. Aliens" Halloween special and a "Madagascar" Christmas special titled "Mad Santa" — for 2009.

For 2010, DWA said it plans a "Kung Fu Panda" and another "Shrek" special but wouldn't name the networks they are going to. DWA has had success with its "Shrek the Halls" holiday special on ABC which premiered last year and airs again this month; ABC confirmed that it will be airing it again next year and in 2010.

DWA CEO Jeff Katzenberg called TV specials a good business that also allows the studio to keep fans engaged between the latest installments of its film franchises.

Also part of DWA's TV slate are two Nickelodeon projects, including series "The Penguins of Madagascar," which has been greenlighted for a 26-episode second season debuting in early 2009.

Nick also ordered a pilot based on the "Panda" franchise. (partialdiff)
