DWA ups Globe to marketing chief
EmptyDreamWorks Animation has promoted Anne Globe to head of worldwide marketing and consumer products, replacing Terry Press, who will remain a part-time employee while also working on outside projects as she launches her own movie- marketing company.
DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said Press is free to work on films that don't directly compete with DWA's family-friendly, mostly CG-animated movies, and that she'll maintain an office at DWA.
Katzenberg said the move has been under discussion for several weeks, spurred by Press' desire "for some variety in her experiences" and to work on more films.
"The limitation of only doing two animated movies a year — and after a year of operating in the new partnership with Paramount — it wasn't enough to fill her plate," he said. "This seemed a great solution. We retained her value as a strategist, which is invaluable, and at the same time she's allowed to do other things."
Press has been with DWA and DreamWorks SKG for a combined 13 years, while Globe is an 11 year-veteran of the two companies.
As head of consumer products, Globe is credited with solidifying relationships with McDonald's, Activision, AOL and Kellogg's in the past year.
"Anne has been taking a bigger and bigger role here and has been doing an outstanding job in the promotion, branding and licensing areas, which intersect virtually on a day-to-day basis with marketing," Katzenberg said. "She'll bring her ideas and build on what's here, and at the same time (she) has got the unique resources of Terry. I think it will get better and better."
The first movie on Globe's plate in her newly expanded role is "Shrek the Third," she said.
"2007 and 2008 will be the first time we're realizing our plan of one sequel and one original movie each year," Globe said. "From a movie perspective, there will be an opportunity to do things differently in the marketplace. I couldn't tell you exactly what that will be, but I'm sure we will be developing interesting and innovating campaigns."
