German gaming industry awards held in CologneCOLOGNE, Germany -- Electronic Arts, Amazon Deutschland and Nintendo shared the stage Wednesday for the third annual LARA Business Awards, which honor excellence in the German video game industry.
EA, riding high on the recent release of top seller "Sims 3" took publisher of the year award, Amazon.de won the award for retailer of the year, and Nintendo's exercise game "Wii Fit" was named the best gaming innovation of 2009. German software company Nevigo won startup of the year for its new game engine Articy, a piece of technology that allows film quality imagery to be incorporated into video games.
The LARA awards, which started in Munich in 2007, were held in Cologne for the first time this year. The city and the surrounding state of North-Rhine Westphalia have made major efforts to attract the video game industry to the area, as also evidenced by the decision to host Europe's video games trade fair GamesCom in Cologne in August.
