Edinburgh Film Festival Artistic Director Steps Down
Chris Fujiwara says he is resigning to "pursue other activities"
Chris Fujiwara has resigned from his role as artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival with one year on his four-year contract remaining.
The news was announced Tuesday, with the film critic and lecturer saying in a statement that he was departing to "pursue other activities."
"It’s been a genuine honor to work with the team in Edinburgh and contribute to the rebirth of EIFF over the last three years," he added.
Fujiwara joined the festival in 2011 and over his three-event tenure saw EIFF admissions increase by 33 percent, hitting 46,000 at this year’s edition in June.
"Chris has played an instrumental part in reigniting EIFF, for which the board of trustees and I are very grateful," said EIFF Chief Executive Ken Hay.
