Edinburgh film festival taps Iain Smith
Replaces outgoing chairman John McCormickLONDON -- The Edinburgh International Film Festival has named producer Iain Smith its new chairman.
EIFF managing director Ginnie Atkinson said Tuesday that Smith will take over from outgoing chair John McCormick this week.
In his new role, Smith will lead the EIFF board's search for a co-artistic director for the 2009 event to cover current programmer Hannah McGill's maternity leave, Atkinson said.
"In these changing times, the festival will be leading the way towards the discovery and showcasing of new talent and ideas in both a local and an international context," Smith said.
McCormick has been chairman since 1996 and has led the organization through changes including the shift in dates from August to June this year.
Smith's myriad producing credits include "Wanted," "Children of Men" and "Seven Years in Tibet."
