Edward Snowden: I Laughed at Neil Patrick Harris' Treason Joke
The National Security Agency whistleblower answered questions Monday on reddit.
Edward Snowden wasn't offended by Neil Patrick Harris' treason joke during Sunday night's Oscars broadcast. In fact, he thought it was funny.
During a reddit "Ask Me Anything" interview on Monday, Snowden responded to a user's question about the joke, which Harris made after the Snowden-inspired CitizenFour won best documentary feature on Sunday night.
The joke went: "Edward Snowden could not be here, for some treason."
Journalist Glenn Greenwald, who also was featured in the documentary, called the joke "stupid and irresponsible," but Snowden said he liked it.
“To be honest, I laughed at N.P.H.,” Snowden said during the AMA. “I don’t think it was meant as a political statement, but even if it was, that’s not so bad. My perspective is, if you’re not willing to be called a few names to help out your country, you don’t care enough.”
He then quoted Patrick Henry: "If this be treason, then let us make the most of it."
