Egan new king of 'Kings'
Smith in 'Can'; several others setHail to NBC's new king.
In the busiest pilot casting day so far this season, Aussie Christopher Egan on Thursday was tapped as the lead on NBC's drama pilot "Kings."
Lauren Lee Smith landed the lead on CBS' drama pilot presentation "Can Openers," Sara Rue is set as the female lead in Fox's comedy pilot "Spaced," Bert Belasco snagged the lead opposite Bernie Mac on Fox's comedy series "Starting Under," Justin Hartley was tapped to star in the CW's drama pilot "Austin Golden Hour," and Joanna Garcia nabbed the lead on the CW's drama pilot "How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls."
Also cast in "Girls" are Lucy Hale and Ashley Newbrough.
"Kings," from UMS, is a contemporary soap loosely based on the story of King David (Egan), a young warrior who joins the royal court after saving the life of his king's son.
Egan ("Eragon") most recently co-starred in Ryan Murphy's pilot for FX "Pretty/Handsome." He is repped by CAA and manager Christine Martin.
"Can Openers," from Sony, stars Smith as a brain surgeon who fights to survive in the intensely competitive boys club that is the seven-year neurosurgical residency.
Canadian-born Smith next will be seen in the feature "Pathology." She is repped by ROAR and Kirk Talent in Vancouver.
"Spaced," from WBTV, Wonderland and Granada, revolves around two strangers (Rue, Josh Lawson) who pose as a married couple in order to rent an apartment.
"Under," from WBTV, focuses on a larger-than-life and opinionated man (Mac) who, after a divorce, finds himself living with and working for his introverted twentysomething son (Belasco).
Belasco ("Dash 4 Cash"), is repped by TalentWorks and manager Susan Yoo.
"Hour," from CBS Par and 19 Entertainment, is a real-time medical drama about a team of young emergency room surgeons and medical technicians. Hartley will play one of them in a casting stemming from his talent deal with CW.
Hartley ("Smallville") is repped by Innovative and managers Ted Gekis and Daniel Ribera.
"Girls," from WBTV and Alloy, centers on Yale-educated Megan (Garcia), the live-in tutor/life coach to two rich heiresses (Hale, Newbrough) in Palm Beach, Fla.
Garcia ("Reba") co-starred on CBS "Welcome to the Captain."
