Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine TV Appoints Comedy Head
Darren Smith joins as head of entertainment and comedy from British network Channel 4.
LONDON - Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine TV has hired Channel 4 entertainment and comedy head Darren Smith to the post of head of entertainment and comedy with the brief to expand Shine's comedy entertainment output.
Smith, who has commissioned shows including 8 out of 10 cats, Charlie Brooker's You Have Been Watching and Friday Night Dinner.
He will report to Shine TV joint managing director Karen Smith, who said he had a great track record across comedy and entertainment.
“The genre definitions between comedy and entertainment are becoming increasing blurred and Darren has a proven eye and exceptional record in both, making him ideally placed to spearhead both areas, in a new, expanded remit for us. I know he will be an incredible addition to the team and am thrilled to be working with him again.”
