Elizabeth Taylor's 'National Velvet' Script Sells for $170,500
An Andy Warhol drawing fetched the most money at a New York auction of Taylor's personal items on Friday.
Elizabeth Taylor's script for 1944's National Velvet, which launched her career at 12 years old, surpassed estimates at a New York auction of the late actress' personal items on Friday.
The script, bound in purple leather, was sold for $170,500 to a private U.S. buyer, Reuters reports. Originally, the item was estimated to be sold within the $2,000 to $3,000 range.

But the script wasn't the item that fetched the most money, that honor went to an Andy Warhol drawing, which sold for $242,500.
The auction was a resounding success, with sales totaling up to $4.4 million, including commission, for Friday. All told, the auction of Taylor's pieces fetched $154.2 million this week. Taylor's jewel collection, including rubies, diamonds and emeralds, sold for $116 million.

Lower-priced items belonging to Taylor, who died at 79 of congestive heart failure earlier this year, are available for bidding through Saturday online.
