This Is the Deal with Ellie Goulding's Grammys Manicure
The nails match the gown.
In her powdery pink Stella McCartney gown, Ellie Goulding stunned Monday night on the Grammys red carpet. The simplicity of the silhouette gave her a goddess-like appearance that her soft, glamorous blowout and natural makeup further enhanced.
The same went for her manicure, which was in a shade that exactly matched her gown — a hue that was trending on the carpet. Says celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann of the opaque blush look, “The nails and toes matched the dress almost to a T, and her lip was slightly darker, almost a berry tone. It was very soft, elegant, feminine.”
Lippmann, who also gave Common a manicure before the awards show, told Pret-a-Reporter that she did Goulding’s nails every night for a week leading up to the Grammys (including a dark blue at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys party), and this was the only night they decided to match them with her ensemble. “I used Love Me Tender ($24) from my XO Barneys collection — two coats, with my Gel Lab Base Pro base coat and top coat ($24).”
Whereas at other awards shows nails tend to be kept short and rounded, Lippmann gave the singer an elongated almond shape. It turns out it’s fitting of the Grammys. According to the manicurist, “I think about musicians with elongated nails. It doesn’t have to be ghetto fabulous — it’s more about a longer nail here than it is at the Golden Globes or Oscars.”
