Elon Musk Buys Neighbor's Home in Bel Air for $6.75 Million
The Tesla CEO purchased the property directly across the street from his primary residency.
Elon Musk is the latest billionaire on a contiguous property-buying spree.
The 42-year-old mogul, who amassed billions via Tesla, SpaceX and PayPal, purchased a traditional-style 20,000-square-foot home in Bel Air for $17 million in January of this year. Property records show that he has just purchased another home across the street, a few hundred feet away, for $6.75 million, according to real estate website Trulia.
At 2,756 square feet, his latest purchase may be tiny in comparison to his original 7-bedroom, 9-bathroom spread, but the 1951 ranch-style home more than makes up for size with its location and pedigree. Sitting on a raised, 1-acre promontory overlooking a stream and the Bel Air Country Club golf course, the house was the longtime residence of actor Gene Wilder, who lived there from 1976 to 2007.
Musk currently lives in the 20,000-square-foot home; he rented for three years before purchasing it this year. Whether he'll raze the ranch home to build an even larger anchor home or use the smaller house as a convenient crash pad for guests remains to be seen.
