Pacific Palisades retailer extraordinaire Elyse Walker has opened a second store, this one in Newport Beach.

Designed by Marmol Radziner, the 12,000 square-foot space in Lido Marina Village features a fine jewelry vault, designer and contemporary clothing, shoes and handbags, home goods, a year-round beach store and a hair salon.

Walker is hoping to replicate the neighborhood store feel of her Pacific Palisades space, which opened on Antioch Street in 1999, and quickly became a fixture on the Los Angeles retail scene, catering to a who’s who of Westside celebs, including Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Kate Beckinsale.

“I’ve always been looking for a second space, but it had to be big enough to take me away from working in the Palisades every day. I love that community so much,” she says. “When I met the developer, I felt comfortable in a second.”

The Orange County spot will have almost exactly the same buy as her L.A. store, she says, at least for now, which means top designers such as Gucci, Saint Laurent and Joseph Altuzarra, along with Zimmermann, Mansur Gavriel and other contemporary labels.

“What we do super well is mixing of brands, high and low, mixing a Chloe blazer with a L’Agence top. That’s always been our thing. We’re doing L.A. style," says Walker. "But we’re here to learn from our clients. If we need more sexy dresses, we’ll go look for them. That’s our job.”

Walker says she knew there was opportunity in Newport Beach “because everyone has mono brand stores at South Coast Plaza. We aren’t taking away from their stores, we’re just offering a smaller curation. So it works well side-by-side.”

And even though retail has been struggling, she says, “I’m bullish on brick and mortar. If you want a huge selection, you’re going to shop online. If you want curation and personal attention, you go into a store. People want to hear someone’s fashion voice.”

Of course, Walker has the best of both worlds — in addition to her two stores, she also has a successful ecommerce partner, FWRD.
