New York designer Tory Burch opened her new store on Rodeo Drive Tuesday night, with a plethora of pretty girls wearing her upcoming season's playful designs, fabulous music, the best champagne -- and lots of it. Of course, she already has established L.A. stores on Robertson, in Santa Monica, in Century City, in Malibu -- and at South Coast Plaza, too.
Burch herself -- the best model of her own clothes -- was wearing a cropped pale blue raw silk jacket with giant crystal buttons that look like brooches, matching boot-cut trousers, and a printed shirt that fell outside the trousers like a tunic. The new store has three floors; the top floor's large outdoor terrace was packed with stylists, retailers, scenesters, editors (Elle's Joe Zee, the L.A. Times' Booth Moore) and fashion people. Running up and down the stairs -- in heels -- was actually a popular activity.
With the event falling just days after the Golden Globes, everyone was assessing who looked great at Sunday's awards show -- Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong'o came out on top of pretty much everyone's list -- and even Jared Eng from JustJared.com agreed it was a pretty good year for Globes style. A short film, directed by photographer Lisa Eisner (who arrived on the scene with her husband, Eric), was shown, celebrating the vintage-inspired Cali vibe for the fashion house's new collection.
It seemed like most of the ladies who attended -- Rashida Jones, Kiernan Shipka, Isla Fisher, Jessica Alba, Hailee Steinfeld, Emilia Clarke, Emmy Rossum, Brooklyn Decker, Jaime King and Ahna O'Reilly -- wore looks from the spring collection of floral and embroidered tops and bottoms, and tiered A-line dresses. Not that we ever doubted it before, but this is where we realized just how smart Tory’s people are -- by scheduling the store opening for the week between the Globes and the SAG Awards, they were able to invite the biggest A-listers in town.
