The competition is extra close, with spouse and sibling pairs (and one bro duo) on the nominee roster.

This story first appeared in a special Emmy issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

Meredith Stiehm and Tom Smuts

Homeland producer Stiehm (who returned to the series after producing FX's The Bridge) and her husband, Mad Men producer Smuts, are competing against each other for best drama series.

Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond

Fey's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt at Netflix snagged a series nom (and added a comedy guest actress nom for Fey), while the pair is among writing nominees for SNL's 40th Anniversary Special.

Derek Hough and Julianne Hough

It has been six years since the Utah-native siblings emerged as joint nominees for choreography on ABC's Dancing With the Stars. This year, they're up for their work on Sia's "Elastic Heart."

Jeffrey Klarik and David Crane

Emmy winner Crane (Friends) and his longtime partner Klarik (left) landed their fourth joint nomination for writing the Showtime comedy Episodes — two short of Crane's nom haul during his Friends tenure.

Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster

The Amazing Race co-creators and producers, who wed in 2000, nabbed their 12th consecutive nomination for CBS' globe-trotting unscripted series. Each has 10 trophies for the perennial reality winner.

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez

The husband-and-wife songwriting duo, who won an Oscar for Frozen's "Let It Go," is up twice in the same category for songs they wrote for FX's The Comedians and ABC's Oscar telecast.

Donnie Wahlberg and Mark Wahlberg

Producers Mark (right) and Donnie earned noms (their brother, Paul, center, also is on the show) for their "unstructured" A&E reality series Wahlburgers. Mark has eight career Emmy noms in all.

Pablo Schreiber and Liev Schreiber

It's the second nom for Ray Donovan lead Liev (his first was for the Orson Welles biopic RKO 281) and the first for Pablo (left), his half-brother and Orange Is the New Black drama guest star.

Kim Caramele and Amy Schumer

In addition to a best sketch series nom, Inside Amy Schumer has earned the comedy 'It' girl noms for acting, directing and writing. She shares the latter with her sister, Caramele (left).
