'Empire' Cast Endorses Hillary Clinton in New Ad
“There’s only one person in this race who said Black Lives Matter,” said actor Bryshere Gray, who plays Hakeem Lyon on the Fox show.
The Empire cast has voiced their support for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in a new Lee Daniels-directed ad.
The TV spot features the Fox show's creator Daniels and its stars Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Gray, Trai and Grace Byers, Jussie Smollett, Gabourey Sidibe and Tasha Smith. Terrence Howard was not featured in the millennial-targeted ad, which primarily focused on race.
"So many women and men died for us to have the right to vote,” says Daniels in the video. “Every time we sit out, we dishonor their sacrifices.”
“There’s only one person in this race who said Black Lives Matter,” adds Gray after naming off Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland and Freddie Gray — all African-American victims of gun violence.
The stars reference Donald Trump, with Trai Byers saying, "The violence and nasty rhetoric against mankind is unacceptable." Henson is shown saying, "If Trump gets into office," which is followed by Smollett saying, "it will only get worse."
The cast also expressed their support of Clinton for her views on healthcare, women's issues and gun violence.
The ad comes just a day after the vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence. Clinton and Trump will square off again in the second presidential debate on Sunday.
