'Empire' Co-Creator Danny Strong on Taraji P. Henson's 'SNL' Debut: "She's a Comic Genius" (Video)
"I think she was a perfect choice. She's a comic genius, so I'm sure she's gonna kill it."
Danny Strong has big plans for this Saturday night.
The Empire co-creator noted while at The Hollywood Reporter's 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media party that he will be seated inside Studio 8H for Taraji P. Henson's Saturday Night Live hosting debut.
"I'm gonna be there!" he said. "I cannot wait to see her do it. I'm really thrilled for her, and I think she was a perfect choice. She's a comic genius, so I'm sure she's gonna kill it."
"There's a universal quality to the storytelling," he said about the Fox drama's wide appeal. He commented during the celebration at the Four Seasons on Wednesday night, toasting the 2015 edition of THR's annual 35 Most Powerful People in Media list. He pointed to the archetypes rooted in King Lear and The Lion in Winter, "and then you got hip-hop, which everyone loves. You combine the two and throw [Henson's] Cookie on top of that, and people seem to be really digging it."
