Endemol Launches Game Show Format Unit
Remarkable Games, part of the U.K. operation of the independent TV producer, will look to build on such hit shows as "The Million Pound Drop."
LONDON – Independent TV production powerhouse Endemol's U.K. unit said Wednesday that it was launching an arm that will focus on producing game show formats for the British and international markets.
The new Remarkable Games will be part of Endemol U.K.'s Remarkable Television division.
James Fox, former head of entertainment at Remarkable Television, will serve as creative director of Remarkable Games, reporting to Remarkable Television’s joint managing directors Nick Mather and Colette Foster.
The new unit's task will be creating "a new portfolio of game show formats as well as further building the success of Remarkable’s existing hits in the genre," Endemol said. Existing shows include the BBC's Pointless and The Million Pound Drop, which in the U.K. airs on Channel 4 and has been adapted in more than 50 countries.
New Remarkable shows include Ejector Seat, which launched on ITV in April, and Two Tribes, which will air on BBC Two later this year.
Said Mather: "Remarkable is responsible for some of the most popular game shows on British television, and James has played an integral role in that success story. His experience, creativity and vision make him the perfect candidate to lead Remarkable Games and deliver the genre's next generation of hits."
Added Fox: "The launch of Remarkable Games is set to accelerate the growth of our game show output, which already engages millions of devoted fans on TV, via apps, on social media and more."
