'Entourage': Drama, Turtle Spotted Filming in L.A. in Cadillac's Ciel Concept Car
The Ciel's appearance in the movie raises the possibility that Cadillac could put the $100,000 retro-futuristic convertible into production.
Entourage's Vinnie Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his crew favored rides ranging from Drama's '64 Continental convertible seen in the series' opening credits to manager E's Maserati Quattroporte and Aston-Martin DB-9.
Now it looks like the dudes are kicking some serious Detroit concept iron.
The Entourage movie was filming across the street from The Hollywood Reporter's offices Monday afternoon when we spotted Drama (Kevin Dillon) and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) chilling in a Cadillac Ciel concept parked on Wilshire Boulevard.
Cadillac unveiled the Ciel (French for "sky") at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance, and gearheads had high hopes that Caddy would put at least a facsimile of the retro-futuristic convertible -- complete with suicide doors a la Drama's Lincoln, olive wood interior trim and a twin-turbocharged V-6 -- into actual production. Cadillac warmed the hearts of enthusiasts by bringing the 2009 Converj concept into production virtually unchanged as the just-launched 2014 ELR plug-in hybrid.
Alas, according to Jalopnik, in July Cadillac scrapped a production car based on the Ciel, citing a lack of "brand-building pizzazz" and likely $100,000+ sticker as disincentives.
A crew member at today's Entourage shoot said that the Ciel used in the movie was "about 65 percent" functional and was driveable (the car was featured in a scene shot earlier) but said that Cadillac wasn't going to build the car.
Nevertheless, with the Ciel featured in at least two scenes in such a high-profile movie, could Cadillac be having second thoughts about putting the Ciel or something very close to it into production? With Entourage slated for release June 12, 2015, maybe we'll see a Ciel for next summer, too.
