Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Responds to Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart 'Tree' Lawsuit
"It's a shame … because they are nice people," says the rocker of his Beverly Hills neighbors.
Smashing Pumpkins' singer Billy Corgan is getting some heat from his neighbor, Eric Dane. The Grey's Anatomy star and his actress wife Rebecca Gayheart are suing the rocker over a falling tree.
The lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court claims a eucalyptus tree on Corgan's property came crashing through the couple's Beverly Hills home during a powerful storm last year. Among the ensuing damage was flooding in the house and a break in a nearby power line. TMZ, which first reported the legal battle, has photos of the damage.

According to the site, Dane and Gayheart are suing for nuisance, negligence, and injunctive relief, claiming that Corgan was aware that the trees posed a potential danger. The couple is demanding unspecified damages, noting that Gayheart was pregnant at the time the incident occured.
In a statement to THR, Corgan says “I was horrified when I learned about the tree falling during what was a massive storm, a storm with winds strong enough to uproot a 50 ft tree by its base! Thankfully no one was injured and after the tree was removed we brought in a expert who recommended other similar trees be removed, which we did immediately. The assertion that I was warned about these trees is patently untrue, and it's a shame they've taken that position because they are nice people.”
