ESPN, Formula One extend Asia pact

Terrestrial, radio, nonlinear included in re-up

SINGAPORE -- ESPN Star Sports and Formula One Management have agreed to renew their relationship for another five years, giving the broadcaster exclusive rights to the FIA Formula One World Championship across multiple platforms in 24 Asian markets.

The deal includes a number of firsts for F1 in Asia. This is the first time that F1 rights have been awarded on a platform-neutral basis; the first time that radio rights have been included; the first time ESS will have terrestrial rights in a number of key markets; and the first time that F1 content will be made available on a linear and nonlinear basis, ESS said.

With these new multimedia rights, ESS plans to soon announce extended coverage and presentation for the next Formula One season on these platforms.
