Esquire Network Makes 'Spotless' Its First Scripted Series

"Spotless"

The dark crime drama first aired on France's Canal Plus.

Esquire Network, part of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment's lifestyle networks, is jumping into the original scripted series business by picking up Spotless, the Britain-set crime drama co-created by showrunners Ed McCardie and Corinne Marrinan (CSI).

Munich-based Tandem Productions, a StudioCanal company, produced the English-language series, which first aired on Vivendi's French pay TV service Canal Plus.

Spotless stars Marc-Andre Grondin (C.R.A.Z.Y.) and Denis Menochet (Inglourious Basterds) as French brothers who meet up again in London. The younger brother (Grondin) operates a crime scene clean up business. His brother, a drug smuggler, pulls him down into the underworld. Miranda Raison (24: Live Another Day) and Brendan Coyle (Downtown Abbey) co-star.

"Spotless is a genre bending drama offering a tonality that’s unique to the current television landscape," said Matt Hanna, head of original programming at Esquire Network. "Perfectly on point for our discerning male audience, it promises to take them on a twisted dark ride.”

Rola Bauer of Tandem is the executive producer of Spotless together with Jonas Bauer and Suzanne Berger. Esquire will premiere the series in the U.S. this Fall. Studiocanal is selling the series worldwide.
