$42 mil Paris Studios to attract Hollywood productionsLONDON -- Luc Besson's EuropaCorp. and Tarak Ben Ammar's Quinta Communications are teaming to launch a French studio facility aiming to rival London's Pinewood and Berlin's Babelsberg in scale and ambition.
The €30 million ($42 million) Paris Studios will also hope to attract Hollywood productions as well as European and French moviemakers.
EuropaCorp. said ground will be broken this year and the studios should be ready to roll in early 2012.
The facility will have nine soundstages and Paris Studios will be part of the ambitious La Cite du Cinema film complex, located at a former power station in Saint Denis, northern Paris.
La Cite du Cinema will house the Louis Lumiere National Film School, offices for EuropaCorp. and Ben Ammar, workshops and offices for other movie companies. It will also include a state-of-the-art screening theater.
