Evan Lamberg Named President of Universal Music Publishing Group

Evan Lamberg has been named president of Universal Music Publishing Group North America, the company announced today. The move is part of a leadership restructuring at the company, which has had a void at the top since the departure of chairman and CEO David Renzer in April.

Lamberg will jointly report to Universal Music Group chairman & CEO Lucian Grainge and UMG president and chief operating officer Zach Horowitz.

In the new structure, Lamberg, formerly executive vp of creative for UMPG East Coast, will serve on a new UMPG global board, which will also include Lamberg, Paul Connolly (president, UK and Europe), Eddie Fernandez (senior vice president, Latin America), Andrew Jenkins (evp, Asia Pacific region/industry affairs), Gary Gross (worldwide president, Universal Publishing Production Music), and Michael J. Sammis (evp, operations & chief financial officer worldwide).

In this new role, Lamberg, who will be based in the company's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., will oversee the North American operations for the industry's leading global music publishing company, including its Pop, Urban, Country, Latin, Christian/Gospel and Canadian divisions.

"Evan's stellar track record for discovering, signing and nurturing the very best songwriting talent, combined with his managerial, organizational and business skills, makes him the ideal choice to build on UMPG's market leading position and to take our North American operations to the next level," Horowtiz said in a statement. "He is a complete publisher-great ears, great relationships, and innovative approaches to maximizing the many new opportunities emerging in the marketplace."

Grainge added in a statement that Lamberg's appointment "sends the strongest of messages to the creative community of just how serious we are about publishing."

During his time at UMPG, Mr. Lamberg has signed and/or worked with many big-name songwriters and artists, including multi-platinum recording artist Justin Bieber (co-signed with UMP EVP/Head of Urban Music, Ethiopia Habtemariam), Owl City, Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Desmond Child, 30 Seconds to Mars, Sean Garrett and Jackie Evancho, among others. He also was integral in signing a joint venture publishing agreement with GloJoe Music, the music publishing enterprise of Vincent Herbert and Troy Carter, which has signed DJ White Shadow (who has eight cuts on Lady Gaga's album, Born This Way).

Prior to joining UMPG, Lamberg spent 17 years at EMI Music Publishing where he served in various positions, including executive vp of Creative, North America. Prior to that he served as executive vp of operations/global entertainment relations at Gibson Guitar Corp.
