Ewan McGregor's 'Last Days in the Desert' Acquired by Broad Green

Release details were not revealed but the company did say the movie was joining its 2016 slate.

Broad Green Pictures has picked up Last Days in the Desert, the religious drama starring Ewan McGregor as Jesus.

The movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, sees Jesus wandering the desert for 40 days and finds himself in a conflict with the Devil over the fate of a family.

McGregor plays both Jesus and the Devil. Tye Sheridan, Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer also star in the movie.

Release details were not revealed but the company did say the movie was joining its 2016 slate.

Rodrigo García (Mother and Child, Nine Lives) wrote and directed the film some have described as a character study.

Bonnie Curtis (Saving Private Ryan) and Julie Lynn (Albert Nobbs) of Mockingbird Pictures produced the movie along with Wicks Walker (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby) of Division Films.

Said Garcia: “I believe that Broad Green will be able to share that with audiences who are religious, non-religious, and just plain interested in the discussion."

The movie will be getting a unique marketing push as Broad Green is partnering with crowdsourcing cinema-on-demand platform Tugg and specialty marketing agency Different Drummer, with the intent to get potential audience members to support the film in theatres and in non-theatrical spaces in local markets.

WME repped the movie and filmmakers in the deal.

Hanway Films is handling international sales for the film.
