Exhibitor Relations wins order to stop Numbers
EmptyBoxoffice tracking firm Exhibitor Relations has obtained a restraining order against former president Paul Dergarabedian, who left the company this month to start his own firm, Media by Numbers.
According to Exhibitor Relations, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Wolfe issued a restraining order Friday that prohibits Dergarabedian from using any data or customer lists belonging to Exhibitor Relations.
Exhibitor Relations has alleged that Dergarabedian and another of the company's former employees, Mariana Pisterman, misappropriated trade secrets when they left, and it is accusing them of unfair competition. A court date is set for next month.
Cheryl Konnell Ruggiero, an attorney representing Dergarabedian, said that Exhibitor Relations' characterization of the order was "misleading at best and libelous at worst. Media by Numbers has not acted unlawfully and wasn't enjoined from conducting the business that Paul Dergarabedian knows best."
Exhibitor Relations owner Robert Bucksbaum said, "This result renews my faith in the judicial system and will allow Exhibitor Relations to continue to work tirelessly to service our loyal, longtime customers."
