Fabio Becomes Latest Celebrity Burglary Victim
The model-actor revealed that thieves stole an entire safe with $200,000 worth of valuables from his West Valley home in March.
Fabio Lanzoni revealed himself to be the latest victim of what many believe is a burglary gang targeting celebrities.
Speaking to CBS-LA, Fabio said that his West Valley home had been burglarized in March and thieves had made off with $200,000 in valuables, including a number of watches and a collection of gold coins.
"You feel violated, angry, upset; it's your home," Fabio said about the robbery, although the model-actor believed the crime was one of opportunity, with the perpetrators winging it rather than it being a planned heist.
Fabio suggested that one cause of the burglary spree was California's early release programs, which allow convicted felons to be released before they have served their full sentences, and he told CBS that he would like police and authorities to take a harder look at the issue.
He added: "They see a nice home. They see nice cars. They burglarize everybody — just in my area, the month of March more than 350 homes just in one month, and just a section of Los Angeles. It's an epidemic."
The spate of celebrity burglaries has ruffled a few feathers, with many in Hollywood beefing up security. Celebrities including Jaime Pressly, Emmy Rossum, Nicki Minaj, Alanis Morissette, Nick Young and Yasiel Puig are among the growing list of high-profile victims of burglary.
The LAPD believes there is a pattern to the thefts and has set up the Knock-Knock Task Force to tackle it. "It's usually a lone individual trying to service their addiction. This is different. This is organized crime," Lt. Todd Hankel of the San Fernando Valley Knock-Knock Task Force told THR in March.
