Facebook, AOL in strategic alliance?
Aimed at boosting their online advertising businessesFacebook and AOL have quietly discussed a strategic alliance aimed at boosting their online advertising businesses, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is looking to tap into the selling expertise of AOL CEO Tim Armstrong, a former Google top executive who oversaw ad sales for the Web giant.
After AOL's ill-fated acquisition of social networking site Bebo, which it recently agreed to sell at a loss, AOL meanwhile could benefit from working with fast-growing Facebook.
Armstrong used to work at Google with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and David Fischer, the head of ad sales and global operations.
One possibility for AOL is being named a "preferred media partner" to Facebook, a source told the Post.
AOL and Facebook declined to comment.
