"Don't have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on 'Fashion Police,' " advised the comedian.

Tensions continue to mount among the Fashion Police brigade.

Kathy Griffin, who co-hosts the show, is speaking out about the controversial joke made on the E! series last month by Giuliana Rancic. Rancic said that actress Zendaya Coleman, who sported dreadlocks at the Oscars, looked like she would smell of "patchouli or weed."

When Griffin was asked by the Chicago Sun-Times whether the same public outcry would have arisen had she been the one to deliver Rancic's line, Griffin replied: "Probably not. But I wouldn’t have said the joke in the first place. Some dude wrote it for her."

Griffin's advice for Rancic is to stick with what she does best. "Don't have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on Fashion Police," Griffin said about what she would recommend Rancic do. "You have enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That’s what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself."

Griffin also weighed in on whether Kelly Osbourne left her post on the show because of Rancic's remark.

"Jesus, I don't know!" replied Griffin. "Sometimes she seemed very upset at the merely seven tapings of Fashion Police we did together. I can tell you this: I adore that family. ... Kelly came to my house a couple of times when Joan [Rivers] was in the hospital, and we were consoling each other. I can tell you there was genuine love there."
