'Fast Five' Tops Overall DVD Sales, 'Lion King' No. 1 for Blu-ray
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" placed third on the sales lists; "Scream 4" debuts at No. 2 for DVD rentals.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment raced to the top of the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart the week ended Oct. 9 with Fast Five, a hit actioner that scored $209.8 million at the domestic box office.
Fast Five held off a strong push by another re-release of a Disney classic, this time the Blu-ray debut of The Lion King, which is coming off a theatrical re-release that grossed nearly $90 million (pushing the film’s lifetime domestic box office to more than $415 million). Lion King sold 79.1 percent as many discs as Fast Five.
The Lion King did top VideoScan’s Blu-ray sales chart; all available copies of the animated film were Blu-ray combo packs, while 57 percent of Fast Five disc sales were of the Blu-ray version.
Paramount’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, in its first full week, was a close No. 3 on both sales charts, but did top Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the second week.
Anchor Bay’s new Scream 4 debuted at No. 2 on the rental chart, with stalwart Thor at No. 3. Fox’s X-Men: First Class and Universal’s Hanna came off their kiosk embargo to rise to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
