'Fear the Walking Dead' Coming to France on CanalPlus
The AMC zombie hit show spinoff will premiere simultaneously with its U.S. debut.
Zombies will invade France on Aug. 23.
Vivendi's CanalPlus said Tuesday it has acquired exclusive rights to Fear the Walking Dead, the spinoff from AMC's global hit. It will air on the French pay TV giant's Canal+ Series channel.
The first episode will air simultaneously with the American premiere overnight, with subtitles. The show will then move to a permanent Tuesday night slot. It will also be available on demand at the same time as the U.S. airings on Sunday nights.
The acquisition is the latest for CanalPlus that gets day-and-date treatment with the U.S. following the launch of its CanalPlus Series channel. Scandal and Revenge have previously received the same treatment.
The Walking Dead airs on telecom giant Orange's Cinema Series channel, which shows new episodes within 24 hours of their U.S. debut in original form and a few weeks later with French dubbing. French broadcast behemoth TF1 owns the free-to-air rights and has shown episodes later on its now-defunct TF6 channel and its NT1 channel.
