Pathe International swept the Cannes market with sales of French fare, including Stephen Frears' "Cheri" and boxoffice record-breaker "Welcome to the Sticks," to major territories, the sales company said. "Cheri" sold to Italy (RAI), the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, and Dany Boon's hit "Sticks" sold well across Europe, in Israel and Singapore. Etienne Chatiliez's musical comedy "Agathe Clery" and Nicolas Bary's debut feature, "Les enfants de Timpelbach," were also among the titles sold.
Not ordinary Extras
Italian actors Toni Servillo ("Il Divo") and Carlo Verdone ("Great, Grand … and Verdone") will appear together in the Extra sidebar at the third annual RomaCinemaFest, organizers said Sunday. The sidebar is a series of informal encounters with well-known cinema figures who discuss their profession and take questions from the public. The festival is set for Oct. 22-31.
DOCU KICKS OFF HBFF
The ninth annual Hollywood Black Film Festival begins Tuesday at the Writers Guild Theater with the world premiere of "Two Turntables and a Microphone," a documentary about Run DMC's Jam Master Jay.
