'Horton' DVD due Dec. 9

The fourth-quarter DVD derby is officially off and running, with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment slotting "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!" for a Dec. 9 release — the first major theatrical film to get an official Q4 release date. With a domestic boxoffice gross of $153.4 million, "Horton!" will be released as a two-disc special edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc and come with a digital copy that consumers can play on their computers, iPods or other portable devices. The release comes with nine featurettes, deleted scenes and a new "Ice Age" short, "Surviving Sid." About 18 theatrical features that grossed at least $25 million in theaters are expected to be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in the fourth quarter, a period in which studios typically realize as much as 40% of their total annual home entertainment revenue.

'Chaser' tops PiFan

Warner Bros. bought the remake rights to "Chaser" in March for about $1 million.
