THEATER FOR SALE

The El Capitan Theatre, a classic Hollywood movie palace restored by Disney as a showcase for its kids movies, is up for sale for $31 million. Disney will remain a long-term tenant in the theater currently owned by the CUNA Mutual Group. The $31 million also gets the buyer the six-story office building above the theater, where "Jimmy Kimmel Live" has its studio and offices.

AFI FEELS 'DEFIANCE'

Edward Zwick's "Defiance" has been chosen as the closing-night film of the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival. The World War II drama, starring Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell, will screen Nov. 9 at the ArcLight Hollywood's Cinerama Dome.

A NEW ATTRACTION

Valencia-based Attraction Media and Entertainment has secured rights to New Line's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" through a license agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, with plans to develop a 4-D theme-park ride and simulation film.

OPENERS AND CLOSERS

Amin Matalga's "Captain Abu Raed" and Stephen Walker's senior pop singers documentary "Young@Heart" will open and close the Seminci-Valladolid Film Festival, which runs Oct. 24-Nov. 1 in Spain.
