FIRST IN FILM

Negin Farsad of New York has taken top honors at the 2008 Every Woman's Filmmaker Competition, sponsored by Lifetime Movie Network, The Hollywood Reporter, New York Women in Film and Television, the Paley Center for Media, WMA and Women in Film Los Angeles. Melissa Kosar of Orange County, Calif., was awarded second place.

JUST A 'MINUTE'

Producer Bernd Eichinger will follow up the terrorist drama "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex" with an adaptation of "Minute of Silence," the novel from German writer Siegfried Lenz. Shooting is set to start next year, with a release planned for 2010.

TAX MAN

Participants at the Rome International Film Festival will have access to information about tax benefits of shooting in Italy, organizers said Wednesday. The initiative aims to help filmmakers determine ways to benefit from tax rebates. The festival runs Wednesday through Oct. 31.

TECH TOUTED

Entertainment technology innovators will be honored by the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers during an awards presentation at the organization's annual Tech Conference & Expo, set for Oct. 28-30 at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood. Robb Weller will host the ceremony.
