Filmmaker Identified as First Shooting Victim in Copenhagen Attacks

Danish documentary director Finn Noergaard was killed Saturday at a panel discussion on free speech.

Filmmaker Finn Noergaard has been identified as the first shooting victim in Saturday's Copenhagen attacks.

The 55-year-old Danish documentary director was at a cafe's panel discussion on blasphemy and free speech when he was shot and killed. The gunman later killed another person outside of a synagogue.

Noergaard directed several TV documentaries, including 2004's Boomerang Boy, about an Australian boy who hopes to become a boomerang champion, and 2008's Le Le, focusing on Vietnamese immigrants living in Denmark.

The Danish Film Institute chief Henrik Bo Nielsen expressed shock and outrage that Noergaard was killed at an event promoting creativity and free speech.

TV producer Thomas Bartels, who had worked frequently with Noergaard, told The Guardian that the filmmaker was "a good man loved by his friends."
