Films shortlisted for best makeup Oscar

'District 9,' 'Doctor Parnassus' up for consideration

Queen Victoria, Vulcans and the aliens of "District 9" all remain in contention for the Oscar for best makeup.

On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a shortlist of seven films that remain in competition in the makeup category for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.

They are "District 9," "Il Divo," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," "The Road," "Star Trek" and "The Young Victoria."

On Jan. 23, all members of the Academy's makeup branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven films. After the screenings, members will vote to nominate three for final Oscar consideration.

Nominations will be announced on Feb. 2, and the Oscar ceremony is set to take place March 7.
